The combination of a property and liability insurance into one is called a BOP, or business owner policy. This makes the rates more affordable while granting greater coverage. Buildings and structures are usually covered as well as whatever you had insured that was inside the building. An important thing to keep in mind when purchasing this insurance is that the insured amount will rise each year depending on the value of the property, so this could mean higher premiums with increased coverage down the road. Even businesses dealing with things that aren't theirs, such as TV repair shops, can get coverage for things they have in their possession at the time any tragedy took place.

A BOP policy is a good option to consider for some companies, even if there is other insurance already. Just as you may have homeowner's insurance to cover things in your home, you should have property insurance to cover any loss to your business inventory, machines and supplies. Replacement value is usually the way these values are figured out, but remember the premium is based on the value, so adjust accordingly year after year and your premiums could go down. The liability portion of the policy can save your business from lawsuits against something your company might have done, or even was just alleged to have done. A BOP policy will cover anything that happens either inside or outside of your business, damage resulting from the use of your product, fire, personal and advertising injury, hosting of an event with alcohol, and medical bills for anyone hurt on your property. To meet the criteria set for BOP coverage businesses will likely need to have some form of security, and factors such as how large the storefront or office is will be taken into account in qualifying for this policy as well. While BOP offers some great coverage, you have to remember it doesn't cover everything. Worker's Compensation will likely not be covered by BOP,and neither will auto or health insurance, so make sure these are covered if you want to give your business the security of a lasting presence in your community. You will always want to speak to a representative of any company you buy business insurance from to make sure you are getting the correct coverage you need to secure all the items that make your business a success.
